The Calgary Thoracic Aortic Program is built on the 4 pillars of Clinical Excellence, Education, Research and Innovation. Research is integral in clinical care as it helps outline new frontiers and define which patients benefit from different treatment modalities.
One central focus to our research is the understanding of aneurysm behavior. Current scientific data to assess risk of rupture or dissection is crude.
Currently our Research falls into the following broad areas:
- Imaging of Aortic Diseases
- Histopathological analysis of diseased aorta
- Clinical outcomes of innovative surgical techniques
- Biomedical Engineering analysis of aortic disease
By combining these areas, we hope to define how to non-invasively obtain a “fingerprint” of an individual’s aorta and thus offer “personalized medicine”.
