THORACIC DISEASES: RECOVERY
- The patient is transferred from the operating room to a cardiac intensive care unit, where they will slowly wake the patient up, remove some of the tubes and then transfer to a postoperative cardiac surgery ward for the duration of their convalescence.
- Patients can expect to stay in hospital for 7-10 days after open heart surgery or 5-7 days after TEVAR surgery.
- Nurses and physiotherapists will work with the patient to regain their strength and mobility after surgery.
- Pain management is an integral part of the recovery process, and medications will be administered as required to ensure comfort.
